COURTSHIP AND WEDDING TRADITIONS
On February 12, 2010, the program, “Courtship and Wedding Traditions, was presented by Donna and Ron Lasko. It was an enchanting, educational, and humorous presentation that focused on the origins of courtships, proposals, preparation, and wedding celebrations that have evolved from ancient cultures to modern times. Throughout the program Donna and Ron answered questions and explained why we perform such dictates of society.
Donna and Ron also exhibited their collection of wedding gowns and courtship accessories from the Victorian, Edwardian and 1920’s era. They served their “Courtship Tea” in silver and donated a tea gift basket which was raffled.
All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the program and found it very informative.

Time For Reflection
“Memory, Mind and Heart - Meeting Christ in Prayer"
One of the objectives of the Catholic Women’s Club is to focus on spiritual development, and the first program of the 2010 meeting met this goal. The program was devoted to prayer and reflection. Father John Sassani preented an outstanding program focusing on prayer, working with handouts, and taking time for the participants to reflect on readings and prayers. The comments from the participants were very enthusiastic and positive.
Father Sassani is the pastor of Our Lady Help of Christians in Newton. He served from 1992 - 2006 as the Director of the Office of Spiritual Development for the Archdiocese of Boston and continues to serve as an Associate Director of the Office of Worship and Spiritual Life for the Archdiocese.

Annual Christmas Bazaar
The Annual Christmas Bazaar was held Saturday, December 5, 2009 in the Church Hall. Comments such as “It was a delightful winter wonderland” and “one of the best on the Cape” were heard often as large crowds of patrons came and went all day. The items were very cretive, high in quality, and very affordable.
The bazaar’s gross income was over $15,500, and each of the tables did very well. They included:
Raffle Table, Jewelry Table, White Elephant Table, Bakery and Treats Table, Children’s Shopping and Gift Room, Crafts Table, Holiday Greens Table, Boutique and Hostess Basket Table, Face Painting and Games for the Children. Lunch was provided by Frank’s Franks
The table/function chairpersons who worked very hard to make the bazaar a success were:
Ann Antonelli, Dottie Hiltz, Karen Breen. Ann Kelliher, Josie Campisi, Kathy Laird, Joan Fearnley, Jo Newell, Ona Hallam, Fran Parsons, Pat Henry, Gail Reilly, Joanne Holms and Jackie Walsh
The raffle prizes were outstanding, and the many winners were very pleased.
The event was a great financial and parish social event.

Harvest Gathering
“One of the best social events ever” and “food was outstanding” were two of many very positive comments that were made following the November Women’s Club social, “Harvest Gathering.” This event was held on November 6, 2009, and a large crowd of 165 attended.
Donny Nolan provided delightful background music throughout the cocktail hour and during dinner and the remainder of the evening. This added greatly to creating an atmosphere for the guests to mingle, chat, and relax.
The highlight of the evening was a dinner prepared and presented by Chef Roland of Falmouth and his staff. It started with a cocktail hour and a variety of cheese, crackers, and fruit buffet was presented. The dinner consisted of several courses which included two salads, and a variety of meats and vegetables. For those who had room, three fabulous desserts were served.
This fall fund raiser was indeed a success thanks to many who worked and those who came.

Springtime for Christianity
Catholic Women’s Club Meeting by Pat Henry
The October meeting of the Catholic Women’s Club of Christ the King Parish featured guest speaker David Thorp. In keeping with one of the Club’s primary missions of bringing its members closer to God, the invitation to Mr. Thorp was most appropriate. He is a graduate of Boston College and Princeton Theological Seminary, is a Lecturer in Theology, and has given spiritual retreats throughout the world. His topic: “Springtime for Christianity”, dealt with some of the many signs of spiritual growth taking place currently across the globe.
David sees the renewed sense of service by all generations as a reawakening of faith, and especially in countries that suffered under Communist rule. The fall of Communism gave way to the spring of renewed faith throughout Eastern Europe. The current trend of young college graduates of all religions entering volunteer service for the underprivileged is another noteworthy and gratifying sign of increasing faith.
Mr. Thorp quoted frequently from the writings of Pope John Paul II and George Weigel’s biography of the Pope.
Following the question and answer period, guests were treated to an assortment of desserts prepared by members and presented by hostesses Grace Glennon, Dottie Bottos, and Donna Tippo.
Joan Powers, the program chairperson, was responsible for the beautiful table flower arrangements that came from her own garden. These included hydrangeas and black eyed susans.
The Club’s next function will be a “Harvest Gathering” on Friday evening, November 6th. Chef Roland will be our caterer, and Donny Nolan will provide musical entertainment.
Annual Mass and Communion Breakfast
The first meeting of the 2009-2010 Catholic Women’s Club season was held on Friday, September 11, 2009. Rev. Msgr. Daniel Hoye celebrated a Mass for the club’s deceased members. A video of Msgr’s homily is available on this web page.
A catered breakfast followed in the Church Hall. The event had over 120 women attending. Msgr. Hoye thanked the women for their work for the parish with fund raising activities and other activities. He also updated the women in the parish strategic goal progcess and encouraged them to welcome new members and invite othesr to join the club.
The drawing for the Club’s annual summer raffle was held. This fund raiser was very successful. A 50/50 drawing was also held.
Highlights of the MOMS Retreat, the upcoming 50+ trip, and the Catholic Women’s Club October were given.
Many thanks to those who brought food to the St. Vincent’s Food Pantry.

Summer Fair
The Second Annual Summer Fair, “Baskets and Biscuits”, was held on Saturday, July 18th from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday, July 19th after all morning Masses in the Parish Hall. This event included the annual bake sale along with a café, a theme basket table, nautical crafts, and art from parish artists. The fair brought in more than $4,000 which will be given to Msgr. Hoye for parish expenses.
The baskets were outstanding with contents and in presentation. They were made from a variety of themes including wine baskets; bird lovers baskets; game baskets; Red Sox baskets, Teddy Bear baskets; tea baskets, and many more.
The bake sale featured homemade pies, cakes, coffee cakes, brownies, cookies, scones, and treats for “the kids.”
The café was unique and gave parishioners and guests aplace to sit and socialize. Cool drinks and coffee. along with pastry, were served.
The nautical craft table displayed and sold pillows, painted tiles, wreaths, straw hats, picture frames, mirrors, stenciled napkins, shelves, candles, and many more items.
The artwork from parishioners was a big hit and provided many people with art at a reasonable price.
Many thanks to all who contributed in many ways.
